Summary:
The Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel is responsible for providing high quality IP service to the entire Werfen organization.
This includes management of Werfens patent portfolio and internal patent process, trademark portfolio and providing support on software licensing and other IP related requests.
Responsibilities:
Key Accountabilities:
Manage patent portfolio and internal patent proces, including but not limited to:
Management of internal patent procurement process:
work intimately and collaboratively with R&D staff of all Werfen Technology Centers and management to ensure that Werfens inventions and technical innovations are appropriately reflected in patent filings Management of patent prosecution:
work with outside counsel and business to ensure obtaining high quality IP assets within budget Drafting of patent applications, as needed Generation and presentation of internal IP related statistical data Provide Support to due diligence projects and IP litigation matters Manage trademark portfolio, partner with outside counsel on trademark registration Support software licensing matters and other day-to-day IP related matters Other duties and projects as assigned Networking/Key Relationships:
R&D; external counsel
Qualifications:
Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:
Bachelors degree in Science or Engineering required.
Higher education degree preferred.
J.
D.
from an accrediated U.
S.
law school required Membership of good standing in state bar required.
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience gained in a law firm or in-house legal department required, a combination of both preferred.
Preferred training or experience relevant to life sciences, chemical analysis, or materials characterization and strong technological aptitude and inclination to learn and work with a range of technologies.
Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.
Skills & Capabilities:
Proven ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels including with technologists, scientists, managers and executives.
Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with a wide range of people.
Effective planning and organizing skills to prioritize key areas of responsibility, tasks and projects.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Strong team player who is both committed and flexible.
Commercial awareness of the business issues facing the organization and the ability to deal with problems in a practical manner.
The successful candidate must also exhibit the highest integrity, excellent judgment, and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively communicate legal issues to patent, legal, and senior management Travel Requirements:
Up to 5% travel required.
