The Supervisory MSA has full administrative and professional, responsibility for planning and directing the MSA's activities. Assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff Resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met Space allocation, Workplace environment, Workload adjustments, scheduling information, productivity analysis Evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations Identifying educational or training needs Orients, trains and integrates new staff into the standard operating procedures of the clinics Evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary Responsible for extracting and analyzing data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management Work Schedule:
Monday thru Friday, 8:
00am - 4:
30pm. While most tours of duty are scheduled during the day, the Supervisory MSA, may work tours other than their regular scheduled tour, including working evenings, nights and weekends to cover shortages or high patient volume. Shift changes will be considered based on patient and facility needs. The New England VA Medical Centers are acute care facilities operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week. While most tours of duty are scheduled during the day, the possibility of working evenings, nights and weekends to exist. Travel:

Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service , or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR (2) Education:
One year above high school; OR (3) Experience/Education Combination:
Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations:
GS-08 Requirements In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-07 leading or supervising Medical Support Assistants (MSA) or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a medical/hospital setting in an inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including, but are not limited to:
Monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Experience is not limited to:
assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSA and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts. Candidates must also demonstrate all of the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements. 2. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with all healthcare professionals to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. 3. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training. 4. Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
