Lead Medical Support Assistant

The incumbent oversees and evaluates the work of all MSAs working in the various clinical services; working with clinical staff to resolve complex problems and ensure patient services are accomplished; evaluating equipment, systems and processes and making recommendations for improved operations; identifying education and training needs of staff and evaluating scheduling practices. The SCC will work collaboratively with doctors, nurses and other clinicians to provide quality medical care to military Veterans in a number of outpatient clinics including but not limited to Primary Care, Patient Care/Nursing Services, Specialty and Acute Care and Mental Health. The incumbent has full professional responsibility for planning, directing, utilizing, training and evaluating the MSAs as related to clinical operations and will independently manage position responsibilities. The SCC will be responsible for conducting monthly scheduling audits throughout the various services to ensure compliance and business practices are being appropriately followed by all scheduling staff. The incumbent is responsible for communicating all new national and VISN initiatives. The Scheduling and Compliance Coordinator ensures the MSA staff understand all performance measures related to patient appointments, cancellations, no-shows, Electronic Wait List (EWL) and consult management. Along with the Access and Scheduling Coordinator in the Group Practice Management team, the incumbent will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data regarding these performance measures to provide reports to senior management. The incumbent is responsible for assuring accurate patient management by the MSAs within the numerous outpatient clinics. The incumbent will participate in various hospital staff meetings to review, discuss and plan strategic objectives, patient flow, automation processes, revenue, staffing and business operations. Incumbent will conduct time studies, collect data and generate reports to support hospital process reviews and medical center improvement projects. Work Schedule:

Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service , or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR (2) Education:
One year above high school; OR (3) Experience/Education Combination:
Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Experience:
GS-07 Requirements In addition to the basic qualifications, to qualify at the GS-7 level, you must have completed one year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-6) . Candidates must also demonstrate all of the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. 2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. 3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. 4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff 5. Ability to provide staff development and training. 6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. References:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
