Nurse Practitioner (Mental Health/Domiciliary)
In the clinical setting, the incumbent will be responsible for independently managing a caseload. S/He will be accountable for the delivery of quality care including the assessment, diagnosis and prescribing services. S/He will participate in transitioning Veterans from inpatient to outpatient treatment settings, provide evaluation and diagnosis, and assess psychological functioning, substance abuse, and psychosocial well-being, and treatment of Veterans. A primary function in this role includes providing Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to treat substance use disorders. Applicants must have or be willing to obtain within 3 months of assuming the position a MAT Waiver. Completes full psychiatric intakes for new patients seeking the mental health treatment; Provides psychiatric medication management to a panel of patients within the Mental Health Clinic; Collaborates with an coordinates mental health treatment planning with behavioral health interdisciplinary teams; Provides psychiatric health services, education, counseling and emotional support; Refers patients for inpatient care, in collaboration with the staff psychiatrist, as necessary; Assesses and manages patients with substance use issues -proficiency in suboxone management; Orders laboratory tests, interprets and explains the test results to patients; Assesses and manages Veterans Serious Mental Illness (SMI); Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits and reasonable outcome expectations; Communicates with patients and engages in follow-up as necessary; May provide primary medical care services as indicated, in accordance with statues, regulations and protocols regulating the profession; and Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required by service line. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
