This position is located within Food Production and Food Production areas at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA. Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
Using proper cleaning solutions to sanitize food preparation surfaces. Cleaning walk-in refrigerators and freezers in a food service or food handling organization. Handling and storing sanitized dishes, glasses and silverware for public use. Making sandwiches using prepared ingredients for cafeteria or buffet lines. Portioning food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers. Assembling and tossing fresh fruit or green salads in large quantities for public consumption. Brewing coffee in a restaurant/commercial size coffee maker. Setting up glasses, silverware, dishes, trays and condiments in communal dining areas. Scouring and scrubbing heavy cooking utensils such as mixing bowls and pots. Performing heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings and/or exhaust hoods. Loading and operating a continuous conveyor belt feeding dishwasher. Setting up cafeteria lines and/or steam-tables with hot and cold food items. Reading and understanding written material such as time and duty schedules. Adhering to safety policies and procedures when performing manual work involving lifting, carrying, transporting and delivering food or other items. Performing other duties assigned as it relates to the position. Work Schedule:

Work requires continuous standing, walking, bending and some stretching. Lifting and carrying of cartons, pans and handling utensils is required. Must be able to move or lift objects weighing up to 45 pounds. Exposure to extremes in temperature of refrigerators, freezers and kitchens are experienced, sometimes working in a freezer at a temperature of -10 degrees F-for periods of time. there is a danger of falling on floors that have been freshly mopped or where food as been spilled, burns from steam or hot foods and cuts from knives and electrical machines and noise. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
